Belted Embroidered Kaftan — Joliba

The Joliba kaftan is a long, loose piece in fluid royal blue fabric, embroidered with silver sprigs on the front and the sleeves. It fastens with a central placket of small pearly buttons, edged with a silver braid that runs from the V-neck down to the hem. Available from M to XXL.

The embroidery is concentrated on the front: two symmetrical sprigs on either side of the neckline, then large branches running down both panels of the skirt. On the sleeves, a sprig runs along the forearm and the cuff is edged with a scalloped braid. The back, however, is plain — apart from the sleeves. We mention it because the front-view photos do not show it.

The belt consists of a band of silver trimming at the front, extended by two tails of blue fabric that tie at the back. It is the belt that defines the waist: without it, the cut stays straight and very loose.

The sleeves are long and flare out from the elbow. The length is maxi: on our model, the hem brushes the floor. If you are under 1.65 m tall, plan for a heel or a hem.

Colours and care

Joliba comes in royal blue and red; the photos above show the blue. Hand wash in cold water and air dry, or machine wash cold then air dry. No tumble dryer: embroidery does not like heat.
